About Roman Numerals
Roman numerals use seven symbols: I (1), V (5), X (10), L (50), C (100), D (500), and M (1000). Numbers are formed by combining these symbols and adding their values. A smaller symbol placed before a larger one subtracts its value — so IV = 4 (5−1) and IX = 9 (10−1). Standard Roman numerals can represent numbers from 1 to 3,999 (MMMCMXCIX).
