About This Random Country Generator

This tool picks a random country from a database of 195 UN member states, showing the flag emoji, official name, capital city, continent, population, and land area. You can filter by continent to explore a specific region, or leave it set to All for a fully global selection. The generator is great for geography trivia, travel inspiration, classroom activities, and settling "where should we visit next?" debates.

Selection uses cryptographic randomness so every country has a genuinely equal chance of appearing. Recently generated countries are shown in a strip below the card. Click the Wikipedia link to open that country's article and learn more. Everything runs locally in your browser โ€” all country data is bundled in the page.

Frequently Asked Questions

The database includes 195 countries โ€” all 193 UN member states plus Vatican City and Palestine, which hold observer status. Territories and dependencies (such as Puerto Rico, Hong Kong, and Greenland) are not included as they are not recognised as independent sovereign states. Population and area figures are approximate and based on recent census and official data.

The generator uses the standard seven-continent model: Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Oceania, and Antarctica. Antarctica has no permanent civilian population so it is excluded from the country list. Russia is listed under Europe (where most of its population and capital are located), though geographically it spans both Europe and Asia.

No. All country data is bundled in the page. Nothing is sent to any server.
